Fav. Artists?

Anyone out there have a fav. cover artist?

As for myself, I like Keith Parkinson, and Luis Royo. I think that Royo's paintings are almost too real. They are just perfect.

Parkinson is better at painting on a larger scale; big landscapes, buildings, large world shots.

Any one else have any opinions?

Agree about those two, got Royos Malefic & Women, ace. I also like Achilleos from the John Norman covers (GOR), old but good, got his Sirens book & Beauty & the Beast, some good stuff. Love Boris vellajos' work but I prefer his wife Julie Bell (Soft as Steel & Hard Curves) 2 good books if you can lay your hands on them. Also Whealan, he's done many covers the ones I know are for M Rawn & T Williams. I paint a little myself but am still learning I also sculpt low relief flats and am doing Achilleos' RAVEN, but will call it something else due to copy right as I sell the odd casting (unpainted)to friends & those with an interest. I still like good old Frank Frazettas' stuff even though it's now quite dated, wish i could do what some of these guys do, oh well keep practising I suppose.

I always liked Yoshitaka Amano. He did the covers for the British editions of Moorcock's Eternal Champion compilations. He also did "Vampire Hunter D" and works on "Sandman". Absolutely brilliant.

Also, Derek Riggs does some interesting urban scenes. You'd know him if you listen to Iron Maiden.

Michael Whelan would have to my favourite. Love the works he has done for Tad Williams.

Michael Whelan is my favorite also. His covers for Rawn and Williams got me into his work, I also like alot of his other stuff (his 'passage' series I think its called). He work just seems to always capture the feel of a moment and drawn you into his world.

A couple of other favorites: Larry Elmore, Parkinson, and although I'm not sure if she's done any covers...Ruth Thompson. I've got so many of her prints hanging on my walls.

Keith Parkinson is a god.

Whelan is really good too. Who else . . . Darryl K. Sweet needs to retire. He's got like three characters he can paint. Guy with beard, Rand, and "the female."

Larry Elmore is good. Youll is okay . . .
Um . . . the brothers Hildebrandt did great with the Sword of Shannara.

Anyone know what happened to them?

I remember a book that I read in my teens by brothers - Ursherak (or something like that) - they were going to make an animated film of the book - but I never saw one. They actually used their screenshots as pictures in the book, and they were brill. If I remember right, they did the posters for Star Wars. Vilderbrandt or some name like that. The book was quite good aswell. Does anyone recognise this one?

I also like Whelan's covers for Rawn etc. I do go initially by the cover scenes - until I read the back cover, and then I may change my mind!!

I happen, as a fem., that I love the way that Royo express and portrays the female body. It it wonderful that an artist can show such beauty in the body. I especially love his piece (don't know the exact name) Wings of ?. I don't find it any way degrading. The way he paints is as if it is a photograph. Wow....
