I always look at the date first for some reason, so I noticed that.

Wow, we're seriously resurrecting a FIVE-YEAR-OLD thread? Hahaha! That's fantastic.
Anyway... favorite series, Tolkien notwithstanding...
Gotta pull for Eddings' 'Belgariad,' LWE's 'Obsidian Chronicles,' Lloyd Alexander's 'Prydain Chronicles' (I was 14, but nostalgia counts), Gemmell's 'Rigante' and Drenai books, Frazetta & Silke's 'Death Dealer,' Keith Taylor's 'Bard' series, I liked Hobb's 'Assassin' stuff but not the 'Liveship Traders' so much (though I am tempted to give it another shot, as well as Erikson's 'Malazan' stuff), Weis & Hickman's 'Rose of the Prophet,' which is quite underrated, GRRM's ASoIoF (of course), and Feist's 'Riftwar' books.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Anyone read any of these more obscure ones?

The first two of the Rose of the Prophet series have been translated into Finnish and the third one should be out soon. I've read them and I've liked the setting quite a bit. I just wish they would have just picked the eastern stuff and left the western stuff out completely. Oh, well. Still a nice change.
I'm quite picky so my my favourite fantasy series currently are:
Kushiel's Legacy by Jacqueline Carey
Vlad Taltos by Steven Brust
The first Amber series by Roger Zelazny
His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman
If you count comics I'd definately include:
The Sandman, written by Neil Gaiman
Elfquest by Wendy and Richard Pini
Bone by Jeff Smith

Man, 'Kushiel's Legacy' seems to come up time and time again on these boards. I picked up the first book and thumbed through it recently at the local used book store (Half Price Books), and then put it back, but I guess eventually you peeps are going to get me to read that series.
