Well, I think this is cool...

There is a tv show in Australia called `The Einstein Factor', on which three contestants face a panel called the `Brains Trust' and answer general knowledge questions, and then a series of bonus questions on a specialty topic of their choice.

Well, my eldest brother (the only genius I know...lol) was selected to appear on the show, and won his round, and his chosen specialty subject was Stephen Donaldson's `Gap' series.

I think that's cool!! You don't win a prize as such (apart from what his wife calls `nerd kudos' lol) but I'm very proud of him.

He's been talking about this series for a number of years - is it really that good? I've never been able to successfully cross the bridge between Fantasy and SF, although I've read a lot of SF short stories that I've loved, and Orson Scott Card's `Ender's Game' is one of my all time favourite books.

Should I try The Gap series?

Here's some previous threads that might help:

Mordant or Gap? (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9287)

The Gap Series by Donaldson.. (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2421)

Me, I'm not a fan, (which is a bit unusual for me). But there are lots of advocates, as you will see!

Well done to your brother, btw. You'll have to tell us later how he did.

Thanks for that! I did a search before I posted, but for some reason I couldn't come up with anything on either `Gap' or `Donaldson'...stupid computer....lol :p

A friend of mine in Victoria [Alan Stewart] will be on The Einstein Factor in May.
As well as being an SF fan & gamer he is also a philatelist, and his subject will be on stamps.
I always watch it.
