I am currently on the third book in Sword of Truth and so far is is phenominal... I love the graphic violence and scences. I also love the deep philosphy in the book and it makes u think so itz not just violence without a point. Well my question is there other fantasy books that are as graphic as Goodkind's Sword of Truth and are deeply philosphical?

inquiring minds want to know..

Define graphic violence.
If u want philosophy or stuff to think about, why not Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality?
Somehow I feel that most of the time, philosophy doesn't really come much into play in fantasy books. What happens most of the time is magic can turned into some mumbo-jumbo, moralistic or pseudo-profound thing... Magic can mangled up and confused such that well, it'll be hard to make sense of it.
However, when philosophy does come into play, there's a tendency for the story to become tedious, boring or so profound(?) that well, interest is lost.
By the way, what has graphic violence got to do with philosophy? There doesn't seem to be much of a connection between the two. (Besides the drastic contrast)

they have nothing to do with philosphy really but in some books you can tell when they are referring to a false belief in religion and etc.. etc..

but my main point was i want to read a book that is good but is also very gorry and graphic like Sword of Truth. I dont want the book to hold anything back. Are there any other books like that? or is Sword of truth the only good series that is graphic in everything imaginable?

Well, I'll throw out a couple of series you might want to check out, but I'm not sure if its exactly what you're looking for.

Piers Anthony's Bio of a Space Tyrant-its a 5 volume sci-fi series that holds nothing back: murder, rape, drug use, etc.

Stephen R Donaldson's Thomas Covenant chronicles--fantasy series (best out there in my opinion) that has some fairly graphic stuff in it. But the graphic stuff is more along the lines of showing us how horrible society can treat a person who is ill.

Dunno if those suggestions will help.

I personally think that the more realistic a fantasy is presented, the better it is. Including violence, sex, etc.

Try "Heroes Die" by Matthew Woodring Stover. It's sort of sci-fantasy, but it has lots of violence for your gore-starved minds. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Graphic violence generally consists of any clear and uncensored depiction of various violent acts. Commonly included depictions include murder, assault with a deadly weapon, accidents which result in death or severe injury, suicide, and torture.

Wow man, I think you just won the world championship of thread ressurections!

I think he or she was just trying to advertise the auto parts links. Why this particular thread was chosen, who knows.

well, it is a Goodkind thread, and not only that but it actually praises him. Thats usually good for at least five pages of people bashing Goodkind, hence lots of advertising for car parts.
