Yet another child king wreaks havok....ugh!

Maybe its just my (un)luck of series lately. My last three series have been Martin's, Hobb's Assassin triolgy, and I am into book two of Hobb's Liveship triology. The one thing they have in common is an immature brat for a king (not quite that direct in Assassin triology) whose actions and tantrems may bring down the world. I actually don't mind the premise but three series in a row! I'm starting to think that it is just too easy of a situation. Instead of trying to create difficult world situations that may be created from mature adult actions and bias, lets just let a power infant create havoc....much less thought involved.

Post rant: Are there many more series like these. I'm just trying to make sure I take a break after Liveship.

Well, if you don't like immature brats better then to avoid Williams' Memory, Sorrow and Thorn & Jordan's Wheel of Time.

I think that best of the lot is Hobb's Assassin trilogy (I have not read Liveship yet...)

There should be more books like Perdito street station.

I have read the ones you mentioned. It's not that I don't like them, I'm just in a rut of reading too many in a row.

How about Hobbs, she not only makes them immature brats, she hooks them on narcotics.

Ah, good explanation for senseless acting http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

At least Hobb has somewhat coherent plot(s).

I beg to differ in that "coherent plots" thing. The Prince's brother f*** up the Prince's kingdom and, then, the Prince simply forgives him?!?! ("Ok, he was just playing, poor thing!")

Well, there's plenty of people besides Joff who mess things up in Martin's books. Read a Storm of Swords and you might be more satisfied.

(Don't remember any brats in WoT, though, at least, not the kind that's still a child.)
