I just wanted to bring some attention to this author.

Martha Wells. She has written three books to date, with one forthcoming.

City of Bones.
Element of Fire (Fantasy) (Out of Print). AMazing book! L oved it. 10/10. If you find it, buy it, read it!

Death of a Necromancer - Same world as Element of Fire, but, 170+ years later. Great book!

And, the new books she has coming out is called...

Wheel of the Infinite. Dont know much about it, but, the idea alone sounds amazing!

Support this Author!

I read Death of the Necromancer, and I really liked it. I am trying to find the other books by her at my library.(I have no money to buy them, but if I did, I would buy them!)

As anyone read The Wizard Hunters The first book in the Fall of Ile-Rien series?

Since this thread had a couple of good recommendations for this author I was considering getting this one.

Anyone got any thoughts on this author or this book?

I read The Wizard Hunters and Ships of Air and am waiting for the third to come out next year. I've enjoyed these books tremendously. They came at just the right time- when I was beginning to feel all fantasy was too formulaic and standardized. Her books have me excited about the genre again.

I'd be interested to hear what others think...

I received an ARC of The Wheel of the Infinite, a few months before its release, and I quite honestly hated the characters and the story. I honestly felt it was badly written, and I suffered through its reading.

Ah, always glad to hear there are other people around
who like Martha Wells.

City of Bones is very good and even original, which isn't
very easy in the fantasy genre. If you like Arabian style story this one is recommended.

Wheel of the Infinite. Mixed feelings about this. Good enough but could have been better. Still the Khmer/Thai
background is interesting.

My favorite novel by her is Death of the Necromancer.
I would put this one in my top 20 of best fantasy novels
I ever read. Good mix of 19th century mystery story,
fantasy, horror and romance.

I was very thrilled that Wells decided to write a new trilogy
which continues the story from Necromancer. But since
I never begin a new series before the series I almost finished I'll have to wait another year before reading this.

I read "The Death of the Necromancer". I am sorry, but I didn't like it much. Maybe it is just not my cup of tea, but I'd have liked a scarier story.

I read "The Element of Fire" and didn't get too into it, I'm afraid. Her writing was okay, but rather overblown in style in my opinion. The family politics aspect of the story was interesting -- you don't usually see a hero who's a Queen's mistress -- and she knows her swordsplay and wasn't afraid to mix dark stuff with humor. But I couldn't get into the characters, who seemed more types than fleshed out, and the plot was fairly predictable to me. Still, if you like writers like Robin Hobb and Joanne Bertin, then Wells seems to be in the same bullpen.

any new opinoins regarding this author? Her Fall Of Ile-Rien series got quite a praise on sfsite.com (http://www.sfsite.com/columns/over258.htm)

I agree with Neil Walsh, at least based on my experience reading The Death of the Necromancer and The Wizard Hunters (http://www.sffworld.com/brevoff/152.html).

The Fall of Ile-Rien is one of those series where I liked the first book very much, but haven't gotten around to finishing it off. I need to remedy this. The problem is, I have this problem with a few series (Butcher's Dresden Files, Karin Traviss's Wess'har, Harlan's Oath of Empire, etc).
