Dresden Files on Sci Fi Channel

from another board:

The good news:

Sci Fi channel has greenlit 11 eps of THE DRESDEN FILES, based on the series
of novels written by Jim Butcher, about "Harry Dresden", Chicago's only
(publicly) practicing wizard, which will star Paul Blackthorne (who played
the archfoe in season 3 of 24, the one where his character had a bioweapon
unleashed in a hotel and "Jack Bauer" threatened to put the character into
said hotel).

The bad news:

The 2-hour tv movie and backdoor pilot has been pushed from Summer 2006 to January 2007

I'm looking forward to this and think it can translate really nicely to the screen. Lord knows there's enough material with the books and with such a strong protagonist, new TV material should be relatively easy to write.

I liked the first book and need to do some major catching up.

Regarding the move to January, I think it makes sense to delay it now rather than later, in order to trim the gap between pilot and series.

You just have to worry about how Sci-Fi will screw this up. They already changed the character's name and made him a private eye.

I have little hope that this show will be any good. I love the books, but the morons running sci-fi will drop the ball on this one. The network just signed to run wrestling for gods sake...

This is amazingly good news to me. I discovered the Harry Dresden Files only a week ago, and I am on my fifth book.......I have fallen madly in love with Dresden, and was thinking just yesterday what a grand TV or film series these books could turn into.

*waves to Elda* Long time no see! Yep, I'm only two books into the series, but definitely hooked.

Yes, long time no see! I have been largely in absentia for quite a while, due to family health issues.

I am now on my sixth Harry Dresden, and just can't say enough good about him! I think this series captures the flavor of both Anita Blake and Merry Gentry, but without all the sex........not that I don't enjoy that aspect of Hamilton, but it's a bit of a relief to see the emphasis placed on the story and not on the couplings!

But seriourly, anyone who enjoys Hamilton's books would probably really like Butcher's Dresden Files.
