It's not actually out on DVD yet, but here's the only 2006 movie so far that I will buy on DVD:
Beowulf & Grendel, the excellent Canadian/Icelandic production I mentioned on this site a few months ago. It was only released in Canada and a few other film festivals around the world, but not the US. It was very good, IMO, and a must-have on DVD if you are at all into scandinavian epics, medieval movies, vikings, legends, fantasy, etc.
This movie really came under the radar, and almost no one has heard of it, so I highly recommend keeping it in mind, and possibly ordering it from amazon.ca when it comes out, on July 18, 2006.
HERE (http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000F4PD7G/ref=amb_link_1110042_/702-4331522-5740043) is the link to the DVD on amazon.ca
And HERE (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F4PD7G/qid=1148596119/sr=11-1/ref=sr_11_1/002-1545926-0684058?n=130) are some reviews on the American site, amazon.com
(PS, there is another version of Beowulf coming out next year, with a much bigger budget.. but it will be all CG animated, over motion-capture performances. So this movie might be the best live-action version of Beowulf that you'll ever get!).
