Who would you say, besides yourself of course and Scott, and now Karin -- who is getting good buzz -- are the up and comers on the Canadian scene?
Hmm... I hesitate to cite these authors as "up and comers," since they're all well, well ahead of me, career-arc-wise, but here goes: Kelley Armstrong. Cory Doctorow. Julie Czerneda, Nalo Hopkinson, Michelle Sagara West, Tanya Huff, Fiona Patton (these have all fully "made it" in Canada and are known to various degrees internationally).

Please, forum-goers: add your favourite Canadian authors to the list forthwith! :)

That would be Kelley Armstrong, who does mostly supernatural fantasy, Cory Doctorow who did non-category sf but I think has been brought more or less into the fold, Julie Czerneda and Nalo Hopkinson who do sf, Tanya Huff who I think does both, but maybe just fantasy, and Michelle Sagara West and Fiona Patton who I know nothing about. :)

There is of course also grand lion fantasy writer Guy Gavriel Kay and sf author Robert J. Sawyer, though they are further along. I'm sure we're missing many more.

So how's the new one going? We want it to be up for an Aurora too. :)

Ah, the new one...well. I'm about 50 pages in and starting to feel some momentum - and some excitement, too. Now I'm just counting the days until September, when my writing routine will resume (I'm doing this counting silently, as my husband's a teacher who, obviously, reviles September!). I'll keep you all posted on my progress, as the months go by. Maybe such updates will motivate me further.

Two more Canadian names for the list: Robert Charles Wilson (sf) and Jack Whyte (Arthurian fantasy).

Again I direct forum-goers to the Sunburst Award site (www.sunburstaward.org), where you'll find some pretty esoteric nominated works - and some names you likely won't be familiar with.

For shame, Caitlin! You left off Scott on that list of Canadian authors! Oh wait, nevermind, I see he was already mentioned :P Still, that would have been amusing :P

And while I'm thinking of it, I did get your email, but I have had a very tumultous week, to say the least, but I'll try to reply by Monday, now that the storm clouods seem to be breaking up at last. And again, congrats on making it to the Final Five :D

"Amusing"? I think not!! Aldarion, I'm appalled that you think I could have been capable of such an ommission! ;) Seeing as 1) Scott was the very first person I "met" on the Del Rey Online Writer's Forum, and the first to say something really, really nice about draft 1, chapter 1 of Telling, and 2) he remains a good friend of mine, and 3) he's FAMOUS!

(I hope those storm clouds are indeed dispersing, for you...and I look forward to your next message.)

We'll try and nag you periodically, but I certainly know what you mean about September. Thanks for the link!
