Hi folks!!!!:D

Please be gentle, I'm new.:o

I'm trying to recall the name of a book I read about 10 years ago, but have had no luck on Google etc and hoped you folks could help.

I can't remember THAT much about it, but the main character was nick named 'wormfingers' on account of his long, flexible, white fingers.

He was kidnapped by some kind of socerer, who kept him captive and made him work as a lacky.

The book centred around necromancy, but other than that, I can't remember all that much.

Does any of this sound familiar to anyone???????
Even a point in the right direct would bemuch appreciated, it's driving me mad!!!;) :p

There were giant birds in the story, and they laid eggs that were used in a lot of the magic. The eggs were stinky and smelled like rotting flesh, don't know if that will help!

You're referring to "The Luck of Relian Kru" by Paula Volsky, I enjoyed its unique characterizations.

Yes, the Luck of Relian Kru is a very nice little book. Volsky is a very good writer. Or perhaps I should say was a very good writer. I have the impression she has disappeared from the fantasy field. Must have had something to do with the commercial flop of her last novel "the Grand Ellipse".

I didn't know about this one; but I did enjoy her book Illusion. I also understand The Grand Ellipse was nominated for a World Fantasy Award; what a shame it didn't do well!

Might try trying to find that one - haven't seen any, apart from Illusion , in the UK at all!

Thank you Incarnadine!!!!!!!
I read it when I was about 15 and I think I'll have a go at tracking down a copy now so I can have another go.!

My edition of "Relian Kru" is a British edition. The book was published by Legend. Of course it's long out of print but it shouldn't be too difficult to find at Abebooks, Ebay or used bookstores.

Illusion and Wolf of Winter are probably her best novels. Wolf of winter is great stuff : a Richard III story set in a world resembling 18th century Siberia. The book was also published in the UK by Bantam UK.
