Hey hey, learned fantasy journeyers.

Two weeks til the end of exams (Britain- A2s). Have already read and re-read lots of books in avoidance of that dreaded horror, REVISION. Now, need lots of books to lounge in the sun with over my 3 month break before uni :D

Love Terry Pratchett, Robin Hobb's Liveship series and the new one, Gormenghast, Laurell K. Hamilton (though with skepticism), Garth Nix... um... lots :D

Also, read very fast.

Want something WELL-WRITTEN (probs better than LKH). Doesn't have to be fantasy, and i'm not a snob about children's (garth nix is a god). Original plot would be good...

First of all, check the stickied recommendations thread.

As you say you want well written authors and that you liked Gormenghast I'd suggest M John Harrison's Viriconium, China Mieville's Bas-Lag books and Jeff Vandermeer's City of Saints and Madmen.Another area to look for well-written, quality fantasy is in magical realism and contemporary fantasy - so try Graham Joyce, Charles de Lint, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Salman Rushdie and Italo Calvino. That should be enough to get started.
