I hereby predict the movie will be absolute rubbish (albeit with amazing special effects), and an insulting slap in the face to everyone that grew up with the Transformers. It will also be a massive missed opportunity with regards to a franchise and story that could be as popular as the Star Wars and Lord of the Rings trilogies.

For starters, last I heard it's being based/influenced mainly from the TV series, which is a bad idea. It should be based on the movie and the UK comics, which is where the real meat lies.

One image from the comic always stuck with me, for some reason:

Given that it's a Michael Bay movie, I somehow doubt it'll ever pause to have a quiet, thoughtful moment like that, or explore the brilliant character potential. It'll just be big, dumb robots blowing things up in giant explosions.

Ah well.

Why would you want a scene in the movie, where Optimus Prime imitates the pose from Rodin's "The Thinker"? Cause that's what that is.

It's not that specific pose. It's the idea that you can have moments of pause, interesting characters, gripping themes and more than endless explosions and cheese.

The point of posting that particular picture is because it goes against what the uninformed opinion of a Transformers movie could be. I imagine the opening scene of X-Men had a similar effect on people that went to see it expecting explosions, siilly costumes and dodgy wirework. It's about not taking the cheap, easy, obvious and brainless route - something Michael Bay specialises at.

Well, I've heard some troubling news at Wikipedia. Apparently Bumblebee is no longer a VW Bug, but a brand new Chevy Camaro. At least he's still yellow, but come on. Bumblebee is supposed to be a bug! He becomes Goldbug for crying out loud!

Also, apparently Soundwave was going to be a helicopter. But apparently that stirred an angry reaction up on the internet, and now no one knows what they're doing with Soundwave.

I think we should expect very little in the way of faithfulness to the original adaptation. It's a shame, but we're lucky to even get a Soundwave ( though I do believe he was confirmed so..)

Well, since the last post in this thread, there has been a LOT more news.

-There is NO Soundwave, because fans FREAKED out at what they were doing to his character. The Soundwave character will now be named Frenzy (one of Soundwave's old cassette's in the original show). Soundwave is being saved for a possible sequel (they say "we can get him right").

-Images have leaked onto the internet, of Optimus Prime, Megatron, Starscream, Bumblbee, and others. The Transformers fandom is in an uproar! Over at Aint-it-cool-news and the Transformersmovie message boards, nerds are raising arms! A small amount of people are ok with the designs, but it seems like 90% of the fans are outraged. Prime has a really tacky flame job... Bumblebee is a camaro and his face looks ugly as hell... Megatron looks like either the Shrike from Hyperion, or Super Shredder from Ninja Turtles 2. And Starscream...poor Starscream is the ugliest one so far. More and more people seem to be joining the haters, and bashing Michael Bay. All in all, it's not looking good for this movie! But there's still almost a year to go, so we'll see....

I recommend lowering all expectations.
