I've heard something about this, don't know it's an rpg or what, but my friend loves video games and I got him interested in ASOIAF, now he wants to check out the game. Anyone have any links to some info about the game? I couldn't find anything.

Thank you.

There is no video game only a tabletop one.

yeah there's a board game, absolutely my favourite strategy board game of all time, no dice whatsoever.

I believe they put out a collectible card game as well, and some people have made ASoIaF mods for thigns like Warcraft III

(screw that I say, mod up that upcoming medieval Total War II)

Anyways, for info on the board and card games go to www.fantasyflightgames.com

They're are currently 3 game licenses based on GRRM's Westeros.

a CCG put out by FFG. I played it for a little while, but found the fact that they rotate sets out, and bring out expansions on a regular basis made the game too expensive. www.agameofthrones.com

a board game put out by FFG. There is the base game and one expasion, and I think that a 2nd expansion is about to come out. I think the board game is fun, but the tactics are a bit limited (I have only played the base game, not the expansion)

A role-playing game put out by white wolf publishing (www.white-wolf.com) and guardians of order (http://www.guardiansorder.com/. It is in both d20 and tri-stat format. I haven't played the game yet, but the book looks impressive.

Is the board game like Risk or something? I've only played Risk twice, and no other strategy games that I can really think of, besides video game RPGs.

Yeah basically. The system is different though. You can't just place units based on how many recruitable guys you have, you're limited by the amount of supply you control. Also, there's a really neat orders system, everyone places an order token on each of their regions at the start of a turn, and then reveals them at once, I friggin LOVE this system. it strikes me as very immersive in a medieval setting, since it kind of simulates sending out orders to your places that may become redundant by the time your men get a chance to act on them, also it forces you to think ahead very carefully.

Combat is resolved by totalling up the combat strength of every unit of every army that is able to participate, and then each player plays a house card, which are all based on different ASoIaF characters. Their card will say how many much strength they add to their forces (a basic number, usually 0 to 3), how many units they can destroy if they win (represented by swords, The Mountain card in the expansion set is one of the only ones to have 3 swords), how many units they can protect if they lose (represented by castles I think), or they will have a text entry that will spell out some special ability they have (Robb Stark for instance doubles the combat strength of any cavalry units in the battle for your side)

There's also fate cards to represent shifting seasons, explosions of warfare, famine, wilding attacks, all those wonderful twists of misfortune George seems to love to inflict on his world.

that's the bare bones of the game, it takes some getting used to but once you do I think it's one of the most clever, intuitive and immersive strategy rules systems out there. i would love this game if it had nothing whatsoever to do with ASoIaF (I just probably wouldn't have tried it to begin with ;))
