I had the honnor of meeting Mr. Hickman once. He was a great guy and had absolutely no problem signing all 12 of the books I brought for his autograph. I asked if the the word "kender" was purposefully spelt that way, because backwards it spells rednek . . .
He just looked at me.

A kender-gardener.

I've never read the Kender books. Is that the name of the Series? Also Azurehero mentioned meeting Mr. Hickman. I'm assuming that he is the author. It it Tracy Hickman who co-authored the Death Gate Cycle or is it a differnt Hickman?

Yes, it's the same Tracy Hickman and Margaret Weis.
Kenders are creatures of the ad&d world Krynn... you can read about them in the dragonlance books.
be warned though, dragonlance books not by Weis&Hickman are usually bad.

Fitz is right. Don't read any Dragonlance books NOT by Hickman and Weis. Mr. Hickman gave a talk of sorts to all us fans. One of the questions asked was how he felt about all the Dragonlnace books not written by him. I don't remember his exact responce, but he explained what happened.
He and Weis had the idea for the Dragaonlance serries, and TSR was gonna pay some other schmo to write them. One weekend Tracy and Margaret decided to try a few chapters on their own. They showed it to the big cheese at TSR and he said, "Okay!"
BUT TSR had already paid said schmo, so all they got was royalties. Oh! And no creative control or say over the world, charcters, gods they created.
And thus hundreds of Dragonlance books poored out.
Bastards.

Not true. Kendermore is written by Mary Kirchof and is a wonderfully Kender story. I absolutely loved how she depicted Kendermore. There were a few details that were incorrect throughout the story, like Tas' age, but it's a really good one.
