Hi everybody! This is my first post in a desparate attempt at finding this book. I only got to read a couple chapters in it, but here's some info on it:

Written by 2 authors, the 1st half or so of the book was written by a teenager but died an early death - so his friends wrote to many authors asking them to finish the story and one author said he would - and so he finished the last 12 or something chapters.

What it is about: there are 4 different worlds, each consisting of its own way that things are done. The boy that you start off reading about is in our world - the one with technology, then he goes through a near-death experience and comes to this world filled with magick. 2 other people come to this magick world, a woman from a world of wisdom (she is also a telepath) and a man from a world of strength (he is, well, strong). These 3 + a Satyr (I think) all must join forces and abilities to fight an evil sorcerer named Nefarius.

Why do they fight Nefarius? a king in a city said that every world has their major evils at one point, which creates lesser evils in the other 4 worlds. WW2 being the technological world's evil, Nefarius the magickal world's evil, and I don't think they spoke about the other 2 worlds.

Anyway, this is pretty much all I remember. I borrowed the book from an old friend, but they moved and I had to give it back - this was years ago and something recent made me think of it and now I want to read it but contact with that person has been cut :(

If you can help, I would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much in advance.

Mr.Wizard a.k.a. Matt

edit - oh yes, a little bit more info, the 4 had their own fears. The technology boy being something about ice (his near-death was falling in a frozen lake and not getting out), the woman was in a cave and suffocating/being trapped, the strong man was fire (family burned to death and he ran around trying to find them), and the Satyr's was wind/ like a tornado pulling him into the air. Nefarius would make them dream these bad dreams trying to stop their journey. The 3 all had a near death experience which transported them to the magickal world.

This book is called "Through the Ice" and was written by Robert Kornwise (the teenager who died so young) and completed by Piers Anthony.

It was published in 1989 in a rare hardcover edition : I think this edition would be hard to find. But is was later published again by Baen in 1992 in a mass market paperback. I suggest you try finding this paperback edition at Abebooks or Ebay.

I think it was a nice gesture of Piers Anthony to finish this novel. Apparently Kornwise was a great fan of Anthony.

You know, I wasn't even aware of the background to this book? Kudos to Mr Anthony for completing it, and well done to those who knew more about it than I did!

Now, there's where a POD version would come in handy. I wonder if the rights are available?
