You don't have to repost if nobody answered, it's there and everyone saw it, just nobody has anything to say about it.

I'm sorry but my connection is not very good
and I was not sure that I post this message.

My favourite creature would have to be the bird-like one in The Hand of Oberon (Chronicles of Amber). I don't think it was in any other books, but nevertheless, it was cool.... :D

I like the standard, staple fantasy critters, i.e. dragons, trolls and the like, but really original creatures that captured my imagination are:

Slake Moths ~ Perdido Street Station (China Meiville)

Calyx ~ A cat-like creature from The Twins (Gary Wassner)

Balrogs!!! The best imho.

And if you want new spins on the old stock of fantasy monsters, check out M Stover's Heroes Die, where Elves and Fairy-Folk ply their trade in a pretty cool brothel.

I think Slake moths are really cool too! I also like the fact that they were brightly coloured grubs... I could just visualise them.

I do a pretty cool line in 'orrible creatures meself - but I'm too modest to vote for me! ;)

Now that I think of it, I loved the Four Horsemen from The Talisman of Shannara. Not terribly original but I think Brooks handled them well. :)

I suppose I would have to go for centaurs, I so love Greek mythology that I always give anything on it a second look.
