I need to read a book. LOL, ok, a little more info...

It's for an English research paper so there needs to be considerable commentary on it

I'm looking for a fantasy book, no sci fi please

It MUST be an American author

Thanks for anyone who helps out here.

Sword of Shannara, Terry Brooks.
First fantasy novel to hit #1 on the New York Times best sellers list (according to the cover).
Could be thought of as the start of modern pop fantasy. And it's been around a while, so I'm guessing there's been a fair bit written about it.

Cheers.

You might try Robert Jordan's "Eye of the World", the first book in his Wheel of Time series. More than one Master's thesis has been written using this book as the central theme, so I guess there would be enough info and references out there for a research paper. There also might be enough info for you to use Raymond Feist's "Magician". Seems like I have seen some work regarding it as well. Hope these suggestions help.

Or try Lord Foul's Bane by Stephen Donaldson. A great read and the themes you could write on are numerous as the stars in the sky.

I agree with Lord Fouls' bane by Donaldson, but another that no one has said yet which is rather surprising is the most ovious. If you haven't read it yet, the Hobbit would be a good one and I am sure that you could find some commentary on it ;-).

Well I first thought of the Hobbit immediately too, but well, Tolkien isn't American! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
