In the Renshai i didn't really like Colbey... he was too arrogant for me. I liked Rache though, the one who couldn't use his legs and still was the 2nd best swordsman in the world.

A few that come to mind immediately:

Roland-gunslinger(dark tower)
Nathan Brazil (Midnight at the Well of Souls)
Perrin(wot)
Corwin (amber)
one of Corwins brothers, forgot his name (the one who lost an arm in battle...)
Sam (LOTR)
and also eventhough his not the hero i really loved Smeagol as a character, i think his a tragic figure the payed dearly for a mistake it did in the past but eventually it's action save the world.
