The 'Lyonesse' series and the 'Tales of the Dying Earth' books by Jack Vance. Radical departure from modern language styles, and a weird sense of humour.
IMHO... ^_^

I like old series because you can usually find all the books, and you don't have to wait for them to be written!

Holy, that book's out. I've got to see what Eddings can do ina new setting. His playing around with the Belgariad universe was getting old.

The Redemption of Althalus? Gripping? I got about 3 chapters into it and threw it down in disgust! It was just a rehash of all his/their previous books - Emerald is Polgara/Sephrenia, Althalus is a mixture of several other characters, the bad guys are the same bad guys from all the other books - even the lines are the same! 'Be nice' is trundled out yet again!
Ok, I'm off my soapbox now, no offence intended to any fans of the book, but I just think that David and Leigh Eddings have reached an all time low with this book, they're just re-hashing all their characters and story lines just to squeeze another few pounds out of the public.
