Which style of magic do you think is the most powerful. Not the magician but the magic. Edding's The Will and The Word, Feist's "prayers", Jordan' chanelling, Goodkind's additive/substractive, etc.

What do you think???

I like the 'Wit' and the 'Skill' in Hobb's Farseer Trilogy, it makes for some intrestin reading when the line between Fitz and his wolf become blurry.

I like most Jordan's channeling, but I am also very big fan of Eddings' Will and Feist's "prayers". I dislike Gookdind's type.
As for Martin, we haven't seen yet the magic there http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif!

I like the Dragonlance kind of magic, in the case of Raistlin you see both the power of the magic and the terrible cost of it. And of course b/c the coolest magic word for light "Shirak" http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I think the Warrens used by the characters in the Malazan books are pretty potent.

The magic of the Runelords series is pretty potent as well. Not only the runes, but the elemental magic as well..

I think 2 of my favorite magic systems come from Weiss & Hickman.

1. Dragonlance
2. Death Gate Cycle - Runes

The most potent kind of magic I've come across isn't in a story, it's the magic presented in Mage: the Ascension (a World of Darkness RPG). True Magick totally re-writes reality and trumps any other kind of magic. The only thing which stops all the mages from becoming gods is paradox. (The more messed up things you do, the more reality itself says "No way" until eventually you get a Paradox burnout which can be pretty fatal).
Eddings magic is a pretty potent concept, too.

Jordan's channeling. A slightly different spin on the normal scrolls and a more direct way of using magic. So much can be done with chanelling.

I agree with Darth. The magic in the Deathgate Cycle was pretty impressive. Those guys sundered a PLANET. Not a good move of course, but a great way to show off your power.
