A couple of Questions..

I went to the bookstore a couple of days ago and was deciding whether to get Thomas Covenant series or Feist books.. First off do you have to read Serpent War Saga inorder to get Riftwar Saga? Are they continuations? will it help to read Serpent war first?

Thomas Covenant has 2 chronicles... Do i have to read the first one? Do i have to read the second one? Are they continuous?

I couldnt decide which so i just picked up Memory, Sorrow, Thorne and am reading that now (starts out pretty slow)..

Can anyone name me some good graphic adult fantasy novels... ones that kids shouldn't read. I've read all of Martin so far and I've read all of Sword of Truth so far and besides those two i dont know any othes that are graphic in nature. any recommendations?

thankx..

I haven't read the Covenent stuff, but recently picked up book one of the Serpent Warfor kicks. It's really great fantasy. I've started reading the Riftwar as well, and while they are connected with characters and geography, one would have no trouble starting with the Serpentwar without reading the riftwar. I'm actually enjoying reading them in reverse because I found the latter series completely engaging, and now am filling in details of some of the character's pasts. It reminds me of the excitement of watching Star Wars and loving it and now being excited because with the new movies I'm able to see the pasts of these characters I'm fascinated by.

To read Feist's books they way the were published is:

-Riftwar Saga-
Magician: Apprentice
Magician: Master
Silverthorn
Darkness at Sethanon

-Serpentwar Saga-
Shadow of a Dark Queen
Rise of a Merchant Prince
Rage of a Demon King
Shards of a Broken Crown

To read them chronologically:
*Riftwar Saga
*Prince of the Blood
*King's Buccaneer
*Riftwar Legacy (which is currently has two books out of three done; Krondor the Betrayl, Krondor the Assassins,)
*Serpentwar Saga

With all that said read the Riftwar first, then the rest will seem obvious on where to go.

It's highly recommended that you read Stephen Donaldson's First Chronicles before the Second Chronicles otherwise you might get a li'l confused http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Here's the proper order:

First Chronicles:
Lord Foul's Bane
The Illearth War
(*Gilden Fire-separately published episode of Illearth War but can also be found in Stephen Donaldson's short story collection entitled 'Daughter of Regals and Other Tales')
The Power that Preserves

Second Chronicles:
The Wounded Land
The One Tree
White Gold Weilder

Umm.. i think the Riftwar Legacy books should come before Prince of the Blood.
******spoiler******
Locklear dies in Prince of the blood but he is in Krondor the Betrayal...
******spoiler******

And i would say you should read the Riftwar Saga before the Serpentwar Saga or you will find a lot of things hard to understand.

There has in fact been 3 books relesed in the Riftwar Legacy series (which are the basis of the computer games)
1# Krondor the Betrayl
2# Krondor the Assassins
3# Krondor the Tear of Gods

and there will be aleast one more to finish off this series.

I would read in this order
Riftwar
(then the 3 books in the Empire series written with Janny Wurts)
Prince of the blood
Kings Buccaneer
Serpantwar
Then the Legacy books because that was the way they were relesed.
