I'd like to get some info on this book by Steven Brust. Is it a Fantasy version of Milton's paradise lost? http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

It is an interesting book. There are certainly some parallels to Milton's work in it but to answer your question, no, it is a fictional tale of power struggles. I did enjoy it because the spotlight shines on the "bad guys". pick it up if you have a chance. It certainly not his best IMO, but a ood read none the less.
Have you had a chance to read any of his Taltos series of books? Excellent series written in the first person. I just love the sarcastic, cynical personality of the protagonist. Here's a hero with some moral flaws. Heh.

I liked the way Heaven was set up. Not quite the biblical version, just a magical land.

A lot of very good dialogue in the book.

Aha. Well, Aiden, I have the Book of Jhereg, which contains the first three novels, on my shelf. Will undoubtedly be read sometime in the future.

Oh yes, a very good book. I figure it's just Brust's playing around with Milton's ideas in 'Paradise Lost', which is a great take. Reminded me so much of Zelazny's take on the Indian mythology in 'Lord of Light', which I really loved.

I think Zelazny's (?) intro to the book sums up the idea quite nicely.

Good, starts thinking "if both FF and ES love it then the chances of me enjoying it have increased considerably"

Nice.

Years later, I still haven't bought it.

More feedback please :)

Is it more of a comedy or also a serious dramatic story?
