Does anyone know?

Hi. A friend of mine was telling me that he read a story when he was young in a science fiction/fantasy magazine that he's been trying to find. His bday is coming up soon, so I thought I'd try and track it down for him. Does anyone know anything about this? The story is about a happily married man who has a scientist friend doing research on helping people find their perfect match from DNA, blood type, etc. So, the man and his wife take the test and find out they're about 85% perfect for each other. But then the scientist friend tells the man that he found a match for him that's 100%. The man then has to decide whether or not he's going to stay with his wife or go for the 100% perfect mate. Has anyone heard of this before? I would really appreciate any leads.
Thanks.

Okay... how old is your buddy? The most famous Sci/Fi mag I can think of was Wierd Stories, but this was quite a while ago.

If we can trace the magazine, it may be a good starting point for a website.

sounds like a story I read once by either Asimov or Bradbury. I know that doesn't help, so I'll just shut up. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

You will need to check this out if you can, but I suspect it is an Isaac Asimov work:

A Perfect Fit
First Published In: EDN Magazine, October 14, 1981, p. 266

Collections:
The Winds of Change and Other Stories

By the way ThoughtCriminal... you were a lot of help... you jogged my memory.

This thread is so old... but I hope that by now you have found out the name of the story. I am looking for exactly the same story! I read it quite some time ago, so I can't even use the right search words. But I did find this, your posting, so maybe you've got the answer now.

And, you probably know by now, by the previous answer given to you of "A Perfect Fit" by Isaac Asimov is not the right story. I read the synopsis of THAT story and it was not the same one.
