Do you remember this series? Wasn't it great? If you agree, then perhaps you can answer this question: What was the name of that freaking dragon at the end? My friend claims he had one. I claim he did NOT. I do not possess a copy of the book to verify, and somehow the libraries copy is missing. Great. By some savage twist of fate, the local bookstore sucks and doesn't have a copy either. Wonderful. This town sucks, so I must turn to you, the fantasy readers of the world.

Help a brother out, would ya?

(and yes, I know this is a totally stupid post)

And I thought this was going to be about Robert Jordan again. I was all ready for some good bashing. Well, to answer your question, I have no clue.

P.S. this probably even stupider than your post.

Can't answer your question, I don't know anything about it. Who wrote the series?

If it's about dragons (sure sounds like it could be) I'll dig.

The Sleeping Dragon....
Is this the first book in the Guardians of the Flame series? The one where those college students playing a game very much like D&D get "magically transported" into that role-playing realm as their characters? By Joel Rosenburg? If that's the case, the baby-dragon's name was Ellegon, and Ellegon said that the Great Dragon at the very end was so old he was around before names.
If you're thinking of a different series, sorry. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I think you're talking about the old dungeons & dragons cartoon...which was pretty much the same thing, just not as "adult" as this book, if you know what I mean.

Damn, that's foolish sounding...

Okay, so in the cartoon they were all teenagers and kids, they get teleported to the D&D world...and they all received magical weapons in ...where ever the hell they were at... from the Dungeon Master, who looked a lot like a pink yoda. Except taller. And Those kids all were trying to get home (like in Star Trek: Voyager, and Quantum Leap, and...hey, this cartoon had a really popular plot, didn't it?) every episode. I even remember there being a really big multi-headed dragon that chased them from time to time.

In the book, Uh, the same thing happens, except they're all college students, and the dragon they find, apparently being nicer because he had but one head, helps them out.

Hmmm. Albino, you're on to something. Does anybody know when the book came out exactly? and when the aforementioned cartoon show came out? Those are REALLY similar plots.

I don't remember the books that well. it's been a long time since I read them. I remember thinking it was cool how they introduced gunpowder into the D&D world, and the native wizards, assuming it must be a magical device, made magic guns that shot bullets based upon water, instead of fire...I thought it was cool that they went to all that magical trouble to replicate simple chemistry, and that it still wasn't as good as gunpowder. Made me smile, anyway; I could so easily see a situation like that occuring in such a world. Instead of learning something new they only stuck to what they understood. Such a wonderful comment on human nature.

heh. this is all so geekish. Does anybody remember the names of the kids in the D&D cartoon? Particularly the barbarian kid with the magic club?

-Bobby was the Barbarian, his sister was the theif character with the Cloak of Invisibility.
-The unicorn was named Uni. Yeah, real original.
-Venger was the one-horned black paladin that rode the Nightmare (black Pegasus)
-Tiamat was the 9 headed dragon, also in the DragonLance Chronicles the nine-headed (chromatic) dragon was the Queen of Darkenss.
-Eric was the whiny guy with the Sheild.
-The voice of the Ranger (the guy with the magic Bow) was...Willie Aimes [sp?](Remember Charles in Charge?).

The cartoon was on in re-runs over the summer on Saturdays (at least here in the U.S.), I think to help build hype for the bomb of a movie.

Yes, I am a child of the '80s and proud of it. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I have heard/read pretty good things about Rosenberg's books, can't seem to track down the early GUARDIANS books, though.

Whew, now that bring up some memories. Thanks Fitz, now I remember all of the characters. I really liked that Ranger character with the magic bow and burning arrows.

That was indeed a good series... i think the 80s had better movies and tv shows than the 90s personally, but maybe it's just me.
