Just finished reading this and it was brilliant.

Glen Cook's Black Company books are the closest I can think of. A bit darker perhaps, but very good.

The Dragon Lance books by W&H perhaps or Salvatore. The worlds will be similiar but not sure about the quality as I have not read them.

The worlds will be similiar but not sure about the quality as I have not read them.I think Moon's Deed's of Pak gets right what what the D.Lance and Salvatore books get wrong. Moon took the basic framework as layed out by D&D and built a world that could be reduced to those rules, but was much larger. The worlds of W&H/RAS are little more than crepe paper and in some ways only make sense if you EXPAND their worlds to the D&D rules.
Some other books I can think of that don't compare directly but might be worth looking at:
Joel Rosenberg's Guardian of the Flame series
Andre Norton's Quag Keep
