Harry Turtledove

Have any of you read Harry Turtledove? I just received one of his fantasy novels the other day and I was wondering what people thought of him.
I have seen that he also writes Historical Fiction (not the historical fiction you see in Books-A-Thousand) but real historical fiction where he changes an event in the past and shows what it would be like. I enjoy history, hence my major, and I was just wondering if he wrote well.

I am thinking of writing my own book about history, but I am not going to change history, rather I am going to write about what I think it was like. I was thinking of writing one about what the south was like immediately after the Civil War and how lives were drastically changed due to this fact. This is just a side note, but I want some feedback on my idea.

I recently read the World Was series by Harry Turtledove, about an alien invasion focr arriving on earth during the scond world war. It might sound chessy from the synopsis but it was actually a decent series. The writing or charcters are generally no great shakes but the storyline is very interesting and epic, managing to juggle many storlyines and characters which only intersect occasionally. Turtledove's ideas on what wold happen in the situation and his way of using real historical figures is very believable. The series is half sci-fi, half alternative history. I havem't read any of his fantasy stuff but I might check it out.

I read couple of books by Harry Turtledove. I remember I thought pretty good about them, but they are not exellent. I didn't really like the language he uses and not everything in his books seemed believable, though some points were pretty well made and I liked his characters. I would say he is an average author.

I have read his Wisdom of the Fox books. They were okay - nothing spectacular but good for light, entertaining reading. I would agree with Lani. He is about average IMO.
