Just today I finished Child of the Prophecy, third book in the Sevenwaters trilogy. Although I had found the first part of the book difficult to get through, the beautifully written ending was downright magnificent, a wonderful closing to an enjoyable trilogy. Surprising and satisfying.
Next I think I will give Kay's Ysabel a try--but I think I'm going to borrow it from the library rather than buy it, as it's getting quite mixed reviews.

My thoughts on the PON trilogy were this.
The first book was quite brilliant from front to back.
The second book was a lot more sluggish than Book 1, though it picked up a bit towards the end.
The 3rd book starts off an absolute drag, but has the most brilliant ending/cliffhanger.

Picked up Jim Butcher's "Furies of Calderon" yesterday, part one of the Codex Alera story. So far am enjoying it. Have the first two books in paperback and the third on hold at the library. Love the Dresden series, so wanted to read this one. So far it isn't so bad. Even has the orphaned "farm boy" approach :)

I finished Assassin's Apprentice yesterday with the thought that this time I'm going to finish the entire Farseer trilogy in one fell swoop. I read AA the first time a few years ago.
Started on Royal Assassin last night.

Latest books i've finshed were
Cathrynne Valentes The Orphans Tales: In the Night Garden, and it was a stunningly good yarn. The book is a sereis of tales being related to us from one original source ... a girl in her garden using a mirror to read whats has been tattoed around her eyes, this then bcomes one of many fairy tales, woven within other fairy tales.
The content is very lyrical and wry, and, well epic in some cases and at other times quite quaint and furtive. The book is very dark and bloody at times, and the tone while still being mythical and wildly creative often stays into storytelling excellence, you just get totally aborbed in the story.
The method used to weave the stories is marvellous, you occasionally find yourself becoming lost or stranded without a recollection of whom or what you're reading about, but that can really be the only quibble. The other may be the language, which does take a few chapters for you to become comfortable with.
The book itself it beautiful, lots of illustraions ranging from small images to full page mosaics of various intoxicating wonders.
Needless to say I enjoyed every page, whether I was reading about Dog Monks, Necromancers, Leviathans, Withcraft, Griffins, despotic kings, talking beasts .. I was simply captivated throughout.
After that I jumped into Jack Williamsons Darker than You Think, more in the book club thread.
