I just checked "Magic Ship" out of the library. I decided to take this boards advice and read her......is this book an appropriate place to start?

If you mean 'The Ship of Magic'... yes, that is the 1st book in the 'Liveship Traders' trilogy, the events in the book take place to the far south of the Six Duchies from the 'Farseer Trilogy', don't worry about that... it does not matter which trilogy you read first.

I actually started reading Ship of Magic only yesterday myself. From what I can tell so far you don't have to have read the other Hobb trilogy, which I haven't. A slow start so far but the setting and the characters are still being established.

Hmmm - the two trilogies are not _directly_ linked but I would have advised the Farseer trilogy first and then the Liveship Traders for continuity's sake, because IMO there is a least one character who appears in both.

But thats just me. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Shadowen... I see where you are coming from, but IMHO they are of the same race, not the same person... but I will stand to be corrected http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

dennizm, surely there can't be two at once? Considering the timing and the character's "development", I'd've thought it was the same person...

Ooh, I *like* being cryptic.

The connection was not very clear until the last book, but after making the connection, I felt stupid for NOT making the connection earlier.

Hmmm... Okay... I am gonna have to revisit the books before I make any more comments about our *cryptic* subject...

... however I still feel it does not matter which trilogy you read first.

Roll on 'The Tawny Man' I say!

Great, now I'll have to read both trilogies just to find out what you people are talking about. Such hardships...
