Has anybody read Melaine Rawn? I started reading her but its really annoying because unlike most authors where they change characters after a chapter. She writes 10 chapters on one person and then changes to a new one. From what ive read i cant tell much but she seems ok. What do others think. Also this is the ruins of Ambrai, Exiles book 1.

Melanie Yawn?

I find her to be the great sleeping-pill of modern fantasy...

The books are IMO boring (Dragon Prince, Dragon Star, Exiles), bordering to complete waste of time. Even the dragons are dull...

I've read 6½ of her books, regretting that i bought them. Exiles is marginally better than her earlier books.

BUT, these books may be liked by readers who are much into intigues and love and such.

Hardcore action fantasy readers, don't bother ;op

I share that opinion, i read only Dragon Prince and stopped any plan to read more Melanie Rawn books.
If you like soaps or spanish telenovelas you might find it interesting because most of it is like 100 different characters trying to find who to marry, the main plotline is usually pretty boring and takes only a side role to those love stories, also her world building sux.
My opinion.

I like Melanie Rawn. I agree, sometimes it seems like nothing is happening, but I think that's because a lot of her plot is kind of political.

Exiles I started and didn't get into it. I came back like two years later and zipped right through it. I would like to know why all the males in that book are hung though.

Thanks all i thought it might have a bit to do with polotics and love generally if it isnt a good plot then i try to stay away from them. Thanks all. Im actually taking a break from fantasy and reading Arthur Conan Doyle.

i already complained about Melanie Rawn on another thread, the people who posted above me already summed it up pretty good but here's my $.02. Bought Dragon Prince because I loved the cover, and couldn't find a Michael Whelan calendar or posters. (They really should make them!). Anyway, the cover is about as far as the interesting material goes ^_^ The thing I kept thinking about her characters in the half of the book I got through was, WHO CARES? I kept waiting for the story to actually get rolling and got tired of her summarizing everything that might have been interesting.
