I'm just curious as to dark romantic novels involving male/male or female/female couples.
Carmilla by Sheridan LeFanu is a really good one, but that's the only story in such a vein that I happen to have stumbled across.
Any others you might recommend?

Affinity by Sarah Waters is a good one.

Thanks for the recommendation.
Although, admittedly, while I don't mind reading the occasional lesbian romance, I'm more curious about books in such a vein in which the main characters are a male couple.

I'm not sure this fits your description, but the Grigori trilogy by Storm Constantine might be worth checking out. They could be described as dark fantasy or Gothic horror, and Constantine explores the themes of sex and death very well (in other books too), there isn't one same sex couple as main protagonists however, just a wide cast of characters who explore their sexuality, manipulate others and push many boundaries. The mythology and belief surrounding angels as well as the ancient gods and goddesses of Sumeria are incorporated in the story to intriguing effect. Hope that is of help!
