Looking for Book Suggestions

Hey everyone,

I'm kind of surprised I'm even on this site since I'm typically not into the fantasy stuff very much. However, a friend recommended the Song of Ice and Fire series to me, and I loved it. Unfortunately there aren't any more for me to read, so I'm looking for some other thigns to fill the gap, so to speak. I suppose I'm looking more for the fantasy side than science fiction, but am open to both. Aside form Martin's works, I've read the Lord of the Rings and that's about it.

Can anyone suggest some books that are similarly entertaining to read?

your best bet is the "sticky" recommendations thread, where you will find such topics as:
- if you like ASOIAF, then you will like ...
- finished fantasy series
- epic fantasy recommendations
and so on
most authors have enthusiast fans and contesters, so it's usually a question of personal preferences. If you need good pointers, maybe you should tell more about what you liked about martin, so i can narrow the search.
Since you don't have many fantasy books under your belt, if you don't have the time to dig deeper into the "sticky", i would say try Robin Hobb "Assassin" books - they will not be a step down in quality after Martin, and they are different enough to offer you a new perspective on the genre.

First, check The Recommendation Thread (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8580) stickied up top.

A LOT of folks who read GRRM come here looking for recommendations and find good reads in that thread.

In that thread you will find MANY MANY threads giving recommendations. Check out this thread in particular:
If you like ^^^^^ then you might like ##### (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=285)

I hate to welcome you to the forums this way, but we do get MANY recommendation question/threads daily and we want to try and keep them on one (or as few) threads as possible.
