This is where you tell us what you're reading in the realms of Fantasy this month. Good or bad, please let us know what you thought.

Over to the Book Clubs....

The SF Book Club discussion is on The Fifth Head of Cerberus by Gene Wolfe. (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16145)

This month's Fantasy Book Club discussion is on The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch. (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16147) A very popular book of last year, that one!

Join in if you can!

Me: There are some times when there is so much good stuff to get round. This seems to be one of them! I'm finishing Daniel Abraham's A Shadow in Summer (review soon), and have Guy Gavriel Kay's Ysabel ready to go. I'm also very much looking forward to Dan Simmons' The Terror which I have just received. And there's China Mieville's Un Lun Dun and Tad Williams' Shadowplay here soon during the month. Can't complain! :D

As for me, I'm almost done with Joe Abercrombie's Before They Are Hanged.

After that, my "commute" book with be Carrie Vaughn's Kitty Takes a Holiday. At home I'll be reading either Steven Erikson's Reaper's Gale or Tad Williams' Shadowplay.

Cheers,

Patrick

My re-read of Ash is taking ages...I haven't had much time to read recently.

I then plan on reading Book of the Long Sun and Kushiel.

Reading Tim Power's Three Days to Never. Urban fantasy (if I can call it that) is not what I usually read but lacking anything else the plot sounded interesting and I know he writes well. This one is similar in atmsophere to Expiration Date.

Still reading Cry of the Newborn. I have A Shout for the Dead ordered and on the way. On the floor, I have Shadowcaller by Tom Lloyd that I might read even though I've heard a lot of negative things about it. I guess that's about it at the moment. When I finish those I'll end up picking up something else. Always do.

This month I will be reading The Fire Demons and The Black Pyramid by J. Fitzergald McCurdy. These are targeted at children and young adults, but are still well regarded.

I am reading them because I will be meeting Joan for the first time in a few weeks. She lives in Ottawa too so we're going to get together and discuss writing and the publishing business. Should be fun!

Reading John M Fords the Dragon Waiting.

So far, wonderful!

Just an edit to say that in the first paragraph of the book, Ford mentions the exact town in Wales where I was brought into this world.

Which I found weirdly cool.

I haven't checked in in a while. I'm halfway done with the second book of the Farseer Trilogy, which I plan to read contiguously. I'm a new convert to this universe, especially now that I've just read The Fool's (incomplete) explanation of why he/she came to Buckkeep. This has just opened up so many possible stories in this world, that I'm getting excited about the subsequent series too. Why did I wait so long to read this?!

It occurs to me that at my pace I could well fill this entire year with Robin Hobbs.

Reading Shapers of Darkness, by David B Coe. The first 3 books were pretty good political fantasy...I'm surprised no one else is reading this. I havent done a search of the forums, but i lurk regularly and dont recall seeing much, if any, talk about this series
