So, suppose you somehow learned a Duyain were working his way through a certain political party in the US of A with his eye on the White House.

What would you do? Help him? Try to stop him? Vote for him?

Considering the utterly screwed-up state of the world, would Kellhus in '08 be a good thing?

I'm not trying to imply anything. I honestly don't know.

Honestly, I don't think anyone would be able to stop him. Anything you said against him would be ignored by the masses, as they'd be his unwilling puppets.

He'd probably end up expanding US control far beyond our borders, possibly the whole world...probably find a way to bypass the two-term rule and basically make himself a king for life too...and control of the whole world could mean world peace, but I don't know if it'd be worth it at the cost of freedom and free will...

There's your mistake: you're treating the situation as if Kellhus were just another power-hungry dictator. A Dunyain would regard power as a means to an end to be used for a specific purpose. Once that purpose is complete, the power would only be a distraction to perfecting himself as a self-moving soul.

The frightening thing about Kellhus is you don't know what he'd do as president.

But seeing as a bunch of very influencial people are literally praying for the world to end and have enough nukes to either do it or else boot us all back to the stone age, another bunch of folks want to make all the money they can even if they destroy the world for the next generation, most of their opposition is too divided to mount any real effective countermove and the bulk of the populace is apathetic and uninformed (and that's not even taking into the account the barbarians at the gate who are in the process of acquiring nukes and other apocalyptic weaponry), someone like Kellhus is looking better and better.

Maybe it's already happened? We've already had a vulgar holy war this millenium, and the Shimeh of the Western world was conquored (although too clumsily to have been Dūnyain work) in '48 :P

A Dūnyain in American politics would be interesting. I wonder how he'd deal with the real life skin-spies, or lobbyists as they're called, since I'm sure they betray no tell-tale signs such as arousal in battle.

Assassinate him.
Kelhus and the Dunyain are even worse than the consult.
Think about it.
The consult, as vile as they are, at least care about the world, even if their view of utopia is a hell on earth, they at least care about it.
The dunyain don't give a $hit about anything.
Kelhus would not just see all the world burn, but help it along, so long as his precious dunyain were left alone to do what?
Huddle in darkness and stretch their minds? To what purpose?
If they don't reach out to the rest of the world, what's the point of their enlightenment?
Knowledge that is never shared is useless.

Methinks the poster protests too much.

The consult, as vile as they are, at least care about the world,

Like a glutton cares for his lunch.

I've looked at the current candidates.

Kellhus, you've got my vote.

Only because Ralph Nader isn't running this year. Well, he came pretty close to winning the first 192 times.

That's cause Nader doesn't know the shortest path.

I wonder who Kellhus'll tap for his VP?
