Peter F. Hamilton has put up an extract of his new novel, The Dreaming Void (Book 1 of The Void Trilogy), on his website (see link (http://www.peterfhamilton.co.uk//index.php?page=Void_Trilogy)). The book will be published in the UK in August 2007 and in the USA in spring 2008.

Book 2, previously entitled Life of Dreams (no, PFH has not read Robert Jordan as far as I know), has had its title changed to The Temporal Void. Before starting work on it, PFH will write a second short story set in the same timeline called The Demon Trap, to appear in Gardener Dozois' new anthology Galactic Empires which will appear late in 2007. The first short story, Blessed by an Angel, will appear in another anthology called The New Space Opera, due in June this year.

The link also allows you to view a timeline filling in the 1,100-year gap between The Void Trilogy and PFH's previous work in the same timeline, the Commonwealth Saga Duology. However, The Void Trilogy will apparently largely be a stand-alone story and you will not need to have read the previous series to enjoy this work.

The timeline link isn't working on the Web site. Will the new series take place before or after Judas Unchained?

I also wonder who will be his US publisher, since Warner is phasing out. Though I would assume it will be Orbit USA.

From Peter's blog:

Okay, so the work in progress bit. I’m currently writing The Void trilogy, which is set 1,500 years after the end of Judas Unchained.

And:

US is scheduled for spring 2008. (all questions as to why the big time difference please direct to Del Rey in New York)

The timeline appears to be 1205 years between the end of Judas Unchained and the beginning of The Dreaming Void, bearing in mind that the extract that Peter has posted is just before Ethan is made Cleric Conservator (3589... Ethan elected as Cleric Conservator, announces Pilgrimage).

The timeline link on the site only works from either the news item on the main page or from the blog page, unfortunately not from The Void Trilogy page. Link to the timeline is here (http://www.peterfhamilton.co.uk/index.php?page=timeline).

Really looking forward to this one though, hopefully sometime in August!

PFH has done a new blog entry here (http://www.peterfhamilton.co.uk/index.php?page=peter-s-blog). Confirmation that The Dreaming Void will be out in the UK in August, spring 2008 for the USA. Work is already underway on Book 2, which should follow 18 months later.

According to the Pan Macmillan New Books catalogue, it's out in the UK 3 August. (ISBN: 9781405088800.)

Has a pretty impressive picture of the cover too, though I can't find a picture of it about on the Internet yet. 600 pages too!

I managed to find a picture of the book cover on Pan Macmillans site:

Also, the book length seems to be confirmed at 656 pages - although shorter than Pandora's Star and Judas Unchained it's slightly longer than Fallen Dragon, so I'm not complaining at all!

Roll on 3rd August....

Hi Hobbit - I've found an even better one now (don't know why I didn't just check this the first time) on Jim Burns' agents website, www.alisoneldred.com:

Looking very good and the full blurb is also there :)
