I am a sucker for lists. I am also a stickler when I set reading goals. A while back I told myself whenever I read sci-fi it has to come off of the list below. I am about 1/2 way through the list, reading the books in no particular order. But I am at an impasse. I feel I am excluding some great books but I can't break my "read sci-fi off the list rule". So what I am asking is if some of you can recommend books that SHOULD be on this list. Or just miss the list.
It is a comprehensive list of the top 200 sci-fi books but I realize it is not the ultimate.
Some of you may be familiar with it.

You have to add to this list all novels of Lem and of Arkadij and Boris Strugacki ( especially " Picnic on a roadside" ) . I dont know which were translated in english. And of course "Robot" of Adam Wisniewski Snerg. If it was transaled its obvious. If not - you have one thing to do. To learn polish. Its one of best SF novels you dont read yet.

Have to agree with this - maybe not all their novels but certainly some of them. If you want something a bit different from the average US or UK SF novel try Roadside Picnic or Definitely Maybe by the Strugatskys, or any of Lem's SF novels. They are available in English and Roadside Picnic has just been re-released.

The Island of Doctor Moreau should definitely replace Battlefield Earth on that list. BE is only up there due to sales, whic Hubbard's little cronies artificially boost by going out and buying up all the copies then sending them back to the publisher for redistribution. It's a nice scheme. But no one reads it, it's crap.
Another good guide for decent SF is the Hugo and Nebula awards lists. Read all those. I'm pretty sure most/all are on the top 100 list, but there might be a few left off.
