Ok, this going to be a really odd question, but, I need the feedback..

Many years ago, when I use to live in Germany (Father was military).. I got from the schoo library a series of cassette's called "The Dark is Rising." I loved it.. and, after many many years, found the novels..

Of lates, I've been thinking about buying the audio cassette's of this story.. For sentimental value..

I've been looking on the Net, and I've found copies of the audio cassettes, but, my fear is that their were not the ones I've listen to.. It was around the 80's, maybe even earlier..77-80 that I listened to these cassettes..

What are the odds that the ones listed on Amazon, or even at http://www.netstoreusa.com/abbooks/080/0807280593.shtml

Are the same voice? Any thoughts? Please, let me know.. =)

It gives a short synopsis of what the tapes are about. The information it gives is:
By: Cooper, Susan // Other Listening Library // Other Jennings, Alex
Library Edition//6 cassettes//Audio Product ~ Analog Audio Cassette
40 pages
Language: English
On his 11th birthday Will Stanton discovers he is the last of the One Ones, dedicated to fighting the forces of evil. Readers are taken on Will's journey as he searches for the six magical signs that will be needed for the battle between the Dark and the Light.
Publication Date: December 1998
Publisher: Listening Library, Inc.

This sounds fantasy, and is sonds like what you are talking about. The only difference is that these were published in 1998, it could just be an updated copy. It could even be a republishing of the same thing. I am not really sure though. If you want to order it, then make sure you order it from a place where it can be returned, otherwise you need to make sure you are ordering the exact same thing.

Just drudging up an old topic for those of you who've read it - is the The Dark Is Rising Sequence any good?

I liked them. Admittedly, I was a lot younger when I read it, but I have only good memories of the books.

I liked it when I first read it, but I was VERY young I think - maybe around 9.

I re-read the first couple in the series over Christmas and they were enjoyable enough but definitely children's books.

So...worth reading if you're young (although they'll seem very dated in parts), maybe worth re-reading if you're on a nostalgia trip but not worth reading as an adult otherwise IMHO.

I read the first one (as an adult) and didn't like it at all. I guess I just don't see the same things many others do... to me, it seemed like nothing ever made enough sense, and I had no idea how the characters were figuring things out. "Suddenly he knew what to do" just doesn't cut it for me after the first time or two. So I never finished reading the series.

Clearly they are Children's books, but they still impress me.

They had a tremendous impact on me because they were clearly treading a slightly darker path than the majority of other children's fiction. Cooper was brave to delve so deeply into pagan symbology and themes.

I still have the omnibus edition, and will pass it on whenever I come across a kid (mine or otherwise) who will appreciate it.

I discovered this series just before my 11th birthday, so at the time I thought they were way cool, the best books that I had ever read. Now I still consider them to be good fantasy, but more geared to younger readers. This series occupies a spot on my bookshelves that I have devoted to "young adult" fantasy, and it's some of the best of this type, IMO.

I really like a lot of young adult fiction, but the first book of Cooper's series didn't do it for me. It wasn't bad, but I never did pick up the next installment.

I first read these 5 books when i was 11 and was entralled!!! Would absolutely recommend them for younger readers. The imagery (especially in the last book is incredible)

Re-read them again last year and there was still a bit of magic (at the age of 25!) :)
