in the fourth book its says on page 177 this is said by the sorting hat btw " 'twas Griffindor who found the way, he whipped me off his head the founders put some brains in me so i could choose instead" do you think the sorting hat is a horcrux even though dumbledore ruled out Godric's item because of the sword:confused: just tell me what you think

I don't think Voldemort would use the sorting hat. The Sorting Hat has shown in a few occasions to be more on the side of good. I think it would have alerted Dumbledore if Tom Riddle attempted to defile it in such a way.

see i thought since he wasnt allowed to come back to hogwarts and teach he had to be there some how. and apperently he wanted one thing from all the founders. on a side note what do you think about his snake being a horcrux. but any way tell me what you think. Oh and was it regulus black who took the locket and was it found in the fifth book?

I'm a little muddy on whether a living thing could be a horcrux. A lot of people believe Harry's scar to be a horcrux, but I wonder about that. From my understanding, you actually have to create a horcrux. It requires you to split part of your soul and then perform a spell to embed it in an object. I doubt that Harry's scar is a horcrux because Voldemort murdered his parents then turned around and attempted to murder him. There was no scar to perform a spell on until he attempted to use the killing curse on him. I also heard someone say that the scar might not be from the killing curse. But that doesn't jive either. Why would Voldemort create a horcrux from a scar on someone he was about to blow away?

If it is possible for his snake to be a horcrux, I still don't think Voldemort would use it for that. For one, we know he guards his horcruxes very well (Dumbledore practically lost a hand going after one). He wouldn't flaunt one like that. One of the reasons he is so dangerous is how frighteningly calculated he is. I mean, he had the horcrux plan while he was still at school.

I once thought this too, but some kind person pointed me the way to JK's website and it proved this as a debunked rumour. I remember vaguley, it saying "...do you really think a horcrux will spend time signing in school halls?". It was somwhere along those lines.
