Critique: On Raven's Wings (chapter 1)

Hey all,

I appreciate thoughts on an odd SF novel I'm writing, On Raven's Wings.

ORW is definitely a departure from my normal style in many respects, but I couldn't shake the story or the character. This is all first draft at this point (I don't rewrite until the story is complete because I find I stop writing when I do). I hope the story might speak to someone out there someday. If not, I'm happy enough to have taken the journey!
