How big is your To-Read pile?

Pages : [1] 2 3

I just took an inventory of the books sitting on my shelves that I have yet to read, and came up with 23.

To me, 23 books that I've bought and haven't yet read seems a bit extreme.

How about you? How big is your pile? :)

Assuming my system is correct I have 42 purchased but unread books. I've not bought many books this year and read a lot, so I'd say towards the end of last year that number would've been closer to 60.

I don't see it as an issue - I'll get through them all eventually (assuming I don't get hit by a bus any time soon)

You have 300 unread books on your shelf? That might take you a while to get through...

I don't a have a "To Read" pile...not enough disposible income. I do keep a list though. Right now it's 10 pages long, two columns. Of course my list includes every title in any series I'm interested in....

Doing a quick skim through, there's got to be at least 300.

My list is a lot shorter than most; it is about 10 but it includes one that has not yet been printed and another that I am waiting to appear in paperback.

On the other hand, there is also list of rereads, say about 5.

It's several hundred books. It's depressing.I'm looking at 5 years of reading when I look at my shelves. The only way I get around this, is to approach the pile merely as suggestions, subject to revision, at whimsy. To look at the pile as a must accomplish goal, just makes me want to sweep the lot of them in a box and put it out with the trash.
I do try to set up a loose agenda for the year, but newer, shinier books always creep in and bump others back.
I just had a big feeding frenzy that I haven't listed yet. It's highly likely a number of these new acquistions will be read this year over books that have been in the TBR pile for centuries.

Mine is about 120, bought but not read. Which means that if I totally ceased to acquire new books, I'd probably get through them in a year and a quarter, or so. But that is, I've come to realize, really unrealistic. I'm always going to get new books, even when I'm trying not to.

Still, at least I managed to keep the situation under control by NOT going to the LA Time Festival of Books over the weekend. Yea though it called to me, I sternly resisted the temptation. :)

After all, ReaderCon is coming up in only a couple months here. ;)

I'd say mine is about fifty books, including classics, non-fiction and non-genre fiction. Of those fifty, I'd say about 30 of them are really on my to-read-in-the-near-future list; the twenty others (mostly classics) are just.. there, because I felt like buying them and "reading them before I die". I should have a bit of time before I need to start panicking.

Of the 30 on my real to-read list, I'd say I'm really looking forward to about 20 of them.

I try and keep it hovering around the 15 to 20 mark, I then just select a book that fit my mood, and proceed from there. I then usually stock up every few months or so.
