Yesterday, I posted my review of the astonishing debut novel by Patrick Rothfuss - The Name of the Wind (http://www.sffworld.com/brevoff/342.html). This book was good, excellent in fact. It could be the best debut of the year, if not the best fantasy novel of the year. At least so far.

The book publishes in a few weeks in the US, and in September in the UK through Gollancz.

Thoughts?

Is there any word of the UK cover?

The US cover seems to have 2 variations, by DAW.

One's a red-haired man, the other's a random picture of leaves and bushes.

I'm reading this now and it's great so far. Rothfuss infuses real magic into what appears, at first, to be traditional fantasy. I met his publicist over the weekend at New York Comic-Con; she was pleased with the amount of buzz his book is getting. First print run: 100,000 hardcover.

I really enjoyed this book a lot (full review here (http://nethspace.blogspot.com/2007/02/name-of-wind-by-patrick-rothfuss-lets.html)). I certainly recommend it for all epic fantasy fans.

Glad you're enjoying it, Drew.

The first printing is 40,000, however, which is still ENORMOUS for a fantasy debut.

As I was the first person to review it, I was eager to see what other reviewers would think about it. I'm glad to realize that Rob and Ken have enjoyed it even more than I did!;)

Also, Rob and I will soon be interviewing Patrick Rothfuss, so stay tuned for that!

Yeah, Pat, 40K is still very large (debut or not). I think I got my number from PW, but they can be wrong about this sort of thing.

I've asked Dag (sffworld.com's owner) if he wanted to advertize the current book giveaway I'm running. The Name of the Wind was sure to generate some interest, so I dropped him a line about it.

Let's see if he's interested...:)

What I'd like is an excerpt of this book so I can judge if the style at least is better than the premise.

Rothfuss' website is suppoed to be ready this week.

As soon as it goes live, I'll post the link so that people can go read the sample material...
