A good part of the posts on this board is about reccomendations. Now i wonder who of you actually bought books based on reccomendations here? What made you follow that advice and not another? What was your experience? Would you do it again? and most important what do you look for in a reccomendation?

Many of my recent book purchases have been influenced heavily by recommendations from the forum.
Just to name a few:
Robin Hobb's Farseertrilogy.
Stephen R. Donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever (both Chronicles)
C.S. Friedman's Coldfire trilogy.
Not to sound like I'm brownnosing, but those recommendations came from FitzFlagg... then again I think my bank account hates him for draining it. I think I've spent $400 on paperbacks since finding the forum... *shrug* I think I'll live...and enjoy! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I picked up Feist because of these boards and glad that I did.
I also succumbed and bought Wizard's First Rule to see what all the hub-bub on the boards was about. Not a bad book.
Also ordered the first few Anita Blake books, haven't received them yet.
I know there are more, just can't remember them now.

I think i only read The Book of Words by J.V. Jones because of recommendations on this board, was a pretty good read, although it might not have been so without Bodger and Grift.

Either FitzFlagg or FitzChivalry (sorry, guys) mentioned that he'd just bought William's "Sea of Silver Light." I didn't realize it was out, and I've already been to the bookstore and back!

I have purchased a few books due to this, and I am planning on getting Stephen King's new book because people here enjoyed it. I don't think I would have gotten it had it not been for the recommendation.

I hadn't even heard of GRR Martin until I came to this board. I don't think I would have picked it up if everyone here wasn't screaming their aproval.
After reading The Shining by Stephen King I was pretty set in my ways that i'd never read anything by him again. But quite a few people here seem to think he's incredible so I think i'll give him another try.
