Thenk you for the interest to my topic.I will
never start to reed Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. Somebody think him for the
best fantasy author, but I don't think so.
Maybe Eye of the World is realy good book,
but others...I think that he must start new series. What you think?

Well, I know that I will probably never read any more of David Edding's works because after the big letdown and bore I got with the Belgariad, any other fantasy book with his name printed on it, I won't trust to be very interesting. I won't read the Harry Potter books because they are for younger readers. I probably won't read books written by Martin, Goodkind, Anne Bishop, or Hamilton because they obtain sexually explicit material which I find to be offensive. I don't really plan to read any over-romantic or girlish fantasy books. Nor will I read any fantasy books written by Christian fundamentalist activists who preach in their fantasy novels that magic in fantasy is "evil" and that TSR is a satanic corporation, and offer their books as an alternative for other fantasy that they lambast ruthlessly. I mean, I'm a Christian myself, and I love reading sword & sorcery fantasy books and I find nothing wrong or satanic about them. I am also a loyal supporter and fan of TSR. That's my list of fantasy books I will not read.

I will not read any Ron L. Hubbard books, he is just preaching his way out religion, in a subliminal way, and expounding his idealogies.

I will never read David Eddings. I have seen very few good things about his writing, especially by people who seem to share my tastes in writers/books.

HOWEVER just to dissuade dennizm and Zsinj16, I will say this.

Harry Potter is NOT just for kids. I would like to consider myself an adult and I read all four books and JK Rowling REALLY does a nice job of NOT dumbing it down for kids. If the HP books can help Stephen King (my fav. auth.) get through a near death accident, then thats also good by me.

I read Battlefield Earth and was pleasantly surprised. Though not a masterpiece, I personally did not get any thing religously preachy from the book.

Then again, I just became a Scientologist (j/k, I'm really agnostic, if anything)

"I probably won't read books written by Martin" Zsinj16

You really are missing out on the best Fantasy around right now. But it's you choice.

Zsinj16, I respect your decision not to read George R.R. Martin, but I must agree with Metosblat that you are really missing something special. I guess I'm not really offended by depictions of sex and violence as you appear to be. What I like about Martin is that he is trying to paint a fairly accurate picture of what medieval life may have been like. Most fantasy I've read is hoplessly naive in that sexuality doesn't seem to exist. Martin doesn't believe is protecting the reader from anything. And I like that.

Anyway,I hope you can someday bring yourself to read ASoIaF.

As for books I'll never read, I'm not sure of the titles, (I think one is Time Code, not real sure) but there is a series of Christian/SciFi/Fantasy books out that I'll never read. (The have black borders, kinda like a letterbox movie, top and bottom, lots of color in the middle around the title.)

I've got nothing against christians, or christians scifi/fantasy books, but it's not my bag. I think it's a great approach for them to get their ideals across, and changing the pace a little from the usual Sunday/Sermon approach.

I don't think there is a book out there that I will not pick up and attempt to read. I think that this idea may have stemmed from the fact that I am a history major and I have to read some of the most boring stuff in the world. If I can read that stuff, then I can read anything. I have read everything from christian contemporary literature to atheistic works. I have also read books written by racists along with Martin Luther King Jr. books. I have read fantasy and science fiction, also fiction and non-fiction. I don't think there is anything that I won't read.

Terry Pratchett books. I find the Idea of a world on the back of a giant turtle shell a bit too far fetched to give it the time of day.

You're denying yourself a huge amount of fun by refusing to read Terry Pratchett - I think he's fantastic. The new book, 'Thief of Time' is due out on May 1st, and I can't wait. I'm curious though - a world perched on the back of a giant turtle is too far fetched - as opposed to the rest of the fantasy genre? I don't know about you but thats why I read fantasy, for the escapism and the suspension of disbelief! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
