I like wolves, horses, and eagles in fantasy, myself. I mean, aren't horses practically a must-have in fantasy books? http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
I would only like cats and serpents to be in fantasy only if they were like giant cats and serpents. An example of a giant cat would be Drizzt Do'urden's companion in the Dark Elf Trilogy and The Icewind Dale Trilogy. I forget his name because I haven't got to reading those books yet, but believe me, I will! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
I can't really think of an example of a giant snake in fantasy though, but I'm sure there's many fantasy books out there with them in it.

I like wolves and falcons.
But hey, you forgot dogs, my favorite ever fantasy animals are Dog from The Death Gate Cycle by Weis & Hickman and Snuff from Zelazny's A night in the lonesome october, both are dogs.

I like dogs and wolves, mainly because I have always had a dog.

I think Donaldson handled horses pretty well. Birds aren't too bad either.

However, I usually won't pick up a book if there is a cat on the cover or an integral part of the story. I hate cats, hate em. Mostly because I am allergic to cats.

Best snake in fantasy has to be Sning from Piers Anthony's "Bearing an Hourglass." The Incarnations of Immortality was a little overblown for me (like most of his stuff), but Sning just rocked from beginning to end.

Dragons aren't considered animals, Charles.

Why aren't Dragons considered to be animals?
Humans are animals so why can't dragons be?

I like a lot of books with animals, these books are mainly just about animals... no humans:

The Wolves of Time by William Horwood (wolves... er yeah http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif)
1. Journeys to the Heartland.
2. Seekers at the Wulfrock

He also did a stand-a-lone novel called The Stoner Eagles

Tarka the Otter by Henry Williamson (guess)
Call of the Wild by Jack London (dogs)

By Richard Adams
The Plague Dogs
Watership Down (Rabbits... you read the book, you seen the movie... now try the stew http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif)
Sardik (a bear)

I like wolves, horses, cats in Fantasy and not only there. I like all animals without bugs. My favorite animal is Shirak of Alexander Draganov.
