Lord of the Rings

I have been re-reading the Lord of the Rings Trilogy for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, to refresh my memory before the film is shown on cinema (Nov 2001 I think!).

Secondly, most importantly of all, to judge FitzChivalry's infamous opinion that Sam & Frodo are gay.......well....I am probably the latest person to have finished reading LOTR in the forum and would have the most recent and reliable memory of the book....do you agree?.......ok...well here it goes.......Fitzchivalry's statement is false (sorry mate!). Here it goes....

Sam and Frodo are very close friends...Sam worships Frodo to death...and Frodo is VERY fond of Sam.....but there is no sexual intonations or any signs to indicate such phallic terms. The pair are often together in the whole book and you will find that they are on their own in the last two books of the trilogy. (With Gollom making sporadical appearances) They had plenty of opportunities to become "gay" since Gollum often left them on their own in the caves while he went off "sneaking". This never happened as either Frodo or Sam took turn to go asleep while the other kept a suspicious eye out for the untrustworthy Gollum. Throughout reading the adventures of Sam & Frodo it was pretty much two close friends who rely on each other support. Therefore I am sorry to disappoint you guys, Sam & Frodo are hobbits that perhaps at the very best, do "male bonding" but that is all.

However, I do beleive that perhaps Treebeard and Quickbeam are gay? They seem to ENT up together and do a TREEsome with eachother. Perhaps that why Saruman left the Orcthanc? He couldn't stand the HOOMING! Just my 2 cents worth guys.

Conclusion: Sam & Frodo are straight. And don't stroll aimlessly to the Fangorn Forest!

There are about 10 topics on the Lord of the Rings in this forum, ya didn't need to start another one! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Just add to previous debate.

Umm.. people, not one of the LoTR characters is gay.
I want to hope that most people understood that i wasn't serious about that. I was just indicating on a certain quality to their character, not to sexual tendencies.

Oh, but they are gay, as in "having a happy and cheerful disposition"...

I think everyone but Belgarion understood that Fitzchivlary was only joking.
We know their not really gay, but they DO act very homosexual going by current standards.

FitzChivalry, I know you were originally joking but wanted to re-open that topic since it is almost true (your statement!). Nevertheless, I apologize for referring to you and putting you in any awkward situation! :-)) (Well perhaps not since I like winding people up!). I bet u can't wait for the movie to come out, I wonder how the characters of Sam & Frodo are going to be portrayed!

How can they be gay, when Tolkien wrote the book being gay was just sick to them. Now they have the mardigrah and things, back then they wouldnt have made any characters gay
