He is Good!!! His best books IMHO are The Waylander books, sort of like a western... set in a fantasy world.

His books have a lot of battle sequences, and the hero tends to be a super macho type warrior... but a believable macho type.

He has also wrote some books set in history, The Prince of Macedonia, being one of these.

A good site to find out his work is: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/7283/

He is the Louis L'Amour of Sci-Fi/Fantasy. If you like Louis L'Amour westerns you will like him.

I like David Gemmell, he writes good action/military fantasy with great heroes as main characters usually.
Somehow it also comes out believeable.
I think someone should make his books into movies, because they are perfect movie material.

Gemmel is a very talented author. His best books are the tales of Drenai.
First chronicles of Druss the legend, Waylander and LEGEND!!

Legend is superb!

David Gemmel is what most would call a heroic fantasy author, and very talented at it... He gives you a feel of his characters like none of which you have ever seen! His heroes are neither good nor bad... And this adds to the excitement-factor of his books! You don't now what to expect from his characters...

I love DG http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif Glistening, muscular, shirtless guys in lengthy, heroic sword fights against fearsome evil opponents. *cough*

Okay, so that may be a slightly slanted viewpoint http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif Sorry.

He's a good read. Buy at least one and check it out http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'll add my voice to the Gemmell is great chorus. He writes quick paced action filled novels. They are generally fairly gritty and are filled with believable, frequently flawed characters. The western analogy is probably pretty accurate. I'd love to see a movie of Legend. Anyhoo give him a try at least.
