What Constitutes The Apocalypse?

There are indeed a lot of post-apocalyptic science fiction books, as another, like, "thread" suggests, but what about apocalyptic science fiction? For instance the tv series ANDROMEDA. That's about the apocalypse, and some sf stories ARE the apocalypse, by being of an apocalyptic nature rather than about it. Any discussion of this?
