Is it the Sally Lockhart books? Ummm...Ruby in the smoke, Tiger in the well, The Tin Princess, can't remember the last one at the moment.
Shadow In The North is the second in that trilogy, before Tiger In The Well if i remember correctly

Curious Incident wasn't that realistic for me, but then again, they do say we're all different.
Usually right after they say we're all dumbasses.
You're not alone. I didn't like it; in fact, I couldn't even finish it. I recall I got to around the bit where he's on the train.
I disliked it a lot*, even though (I think) I'm the book's target audience.
Ah well, my mother and aunt both loved it.
*The whole time I read it, I either found it frustrating, and I kept thinking of the author writing the book, rather than it being written by an autistic boy.

Yeah - the kid's actions don't seem totally realistic (then again, he does have it very severely), but the writing style itself seemed spot-on - just look at all my ultra-pedantic posts! ;)

Guys do you consider this being on topic?? I mean seriously do you know that some people pay by the minute and people will get annoyed with this thread and not come so often and we dont want that to damage the thread for Alison do we guys? Plz just keep on topic. Heres a quote from Hobbit have a think about it.
"What I'm trying to do is save Alison some grief; she's really nice but there are some members who, because they pay per minute, could get a little annoyed at her, as they are basically paying to go through lots of chat."
Ok guys now im the big meanie.
oh and correct me if im wrong but isnt this thread about news and reveiws for THE GIFT?

I haven't seen her mentioned on this thread, so I'll put in a word for Martha Wells' books about Il-Rien, including The Death of the Necromancer. If you like Alison's characters, dialog and in-depth world, I think you'd enjoy Martha Wells' work too!
Lois McMaster Bujold's The Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls are also Pellinoresque. Very good stuff, with strong characters and a complex world.
The Phoenix Guards and Five Hundred Years After, as well as many of the Vlad Taltos books by Steven Brust are all set in a wonderfully rich world. The Guards and Five Hundred Years are written in the style of Dumas' Musketeers, and are absolutely fabulous fun.
I'm a huge fan of Garth Nix's Old World series, and I enjoyed Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials. I picked up The Gift on a recent trip to the UK, and I'm envious of the quality of Fantasy that gets printed outside the US. Gives me an excuse to keep travelling though! Thanks for all your recommendations.
