ello,
I'm afraid it was impossible for me to read through all the other recommendations, so my apologies if i am repeating what has already been said...
An author that i absolutely love is Juliet Marillier.
She writes folk lore/ historical fantasty sort book. All the books I've read are also very romantic. Not only in the luvy sense, but there is something absolutely poetic about the whole piece.
The series I would recommend to be read first are THE SEVENWATERS TRILOGY (starts with Daughter of the Forest, then, Son of the Shadows, and then Chid of the Profecy), and she has also just finished another trilogy called the BRIDIE CHRONICLES.... sevenwaters is me fav. i think people who enjoy Alison's writing (as we all ovisouly do.. :) ) will really enjoy these books.
I would like to warn that the books are written as adult fic (i'm pretty sure) so some themes etc are a little darker then what a few younger readers might be used to....
i also love reading .... Jane Austen (genius.. P and P was my firsrt love :) )... wuthering heights ( ah, the romance!).... Enjoyed George Owells 1984.... Jenny Crusie (chick lit romance writer)...in high school went through a big David Eddings period (fun fantasy)..... love oscar wilde (witty and fun. so clever!).... The Lost art of keeping secrets by Eva Rice (bought it on a whim becuase i loved the cover, and truly loved it... story of a 19 year old English girl in the 1950s (when elvis came out!)... if you enjoy the delights of 1950s fashion and high society, this ws a fun read .. also nice romanctic plot! :)
most books i really enjoy, i will be forced to admit has romatic influence, so keep that in mind ith alot of hte above!

they are a japanese epic fantasy, with a sorta samuri v ninja theme plus some romance, they were supposed to be a trilogy but she's decided to write a fourth and final installment.
the first book is called across the nightingale floor, 2nd - grass for his pillow and 3rd brilliance of the moon
