anyone read the artemis fowl series by eoin colfer? they're great! plenty of butt-kicking faeries and a very intellligent and ambituous boy.
Yup, I have read all the artemis fowl book bar the new one, I think it's called Opal's Deception, has anyone read it? I think they're quite good, a bit different I'd say.

I spent a couple of days with Garth Nix once, doing readings and talks. Not only is he a good writer, he's a totally charming and funny human being. I especially like Sabriel.

NO WAY!! haha.
I loved his books!! Sabriel, Lirael, Abhorsen
Really unique books, with the bells and all!!
Another authour that actually isn't well know at all, suprisingly, is Kara Dalkey!
Here books are absolutely wonderful, although some are short!
For an example,
LITTLE SISTER- this is definately one of my all time favourite books, although it's not as great as The Naming :D .. It's really touching and wonderful... can't get enough of it =)
WATER- the whole series, although the books are short, are really intriging and awesome.. Has the Atlantis theme but more fantasyish =)
Kara Dalkey has a lot of other great books.. but I find it really disappointing when a lot of the libraries don't have her books... They are truly fantastic!

Sometimes when you go and ask for these books in the library, they might even order it for you....it's worth a try if you like the books so much.

I havn't read this whole thread, so I'm not sure if anyones mentioned him. Ian Irvine and Alison are my two favorite fantasy novelists. I haven't read his sci fi series, but his a tail of the three world books are awesome. Especially the second series he did.
If you havn't read them I suggest you do. The first series he did (The View From The Mirror) takes a while to get in to, but it is definitly worth it.
