just make sure you read them when you have a lot of time because they're long and it takes a little while to get into them (mostly due to tolkien's annoying habit of describing EVERYTHING...every tree every mountain, every house... seriously, he can go on for pages about one object...oh well)
hahahahahahah ya i can imagine lol :D

Can anyone recommend a really good fantasy book they've read? I'm insanely picky when it comes to books, and I want to read something awesome.
BTW, I've never read LOTR either. It's too wordy with the war scenes and stuff for me. As I said, I'm really picky.:o

I started to read it but i got bored.. I only got to the bit where Frodo got to that pub thing >_>
ANYWAYS! Isn't Frodo like 40 or something? Or did i.. mis-read? (hehe)
I think thats why i stopped reading it. FRODO IS SUPPOSED TO BE 16.. or something. :p
I prefer books with younger characters going into adulthood.. such as Lyra. (His Dark Materials - Phillip Pullman)
AHH! Thats a book is it not?! I recommend that one.
Ohh it's so great the last one. (Not the best book from the series) cos at the start of each chapter there are little quotes/poems (like in Pellinor) by people like William Blake ect. I'm writing them randomly on my wall.. i wrote 'I Will Not Say Do Not Fear. For Fear Is The Other Face Of Hope' on my wall..
haha..
and i wrote..
And Ye Shall Know The Truth And The Truth Shall Set You Free.
and..
O That It Were Possible We Might Hold But Two Days Conference With The Dead.
and..
I Have Been A Stranger In A Strange Land.
HhAHAHAHAHHAhahaha I need to see a counceller.

Frodo is in his 40's and that's he age he's meant to be  but in Hobbit years he's only like 18...
I'm such a LotR nerd pfft :D
But you can't give up, keep reading! The books are so much better than the movies in parts. They make more sense! Though I agree that Tolkien goes over the top with the adjectives on occasion... :D

i just started reading the last book in the chanters of tremaris series by kate constable, and it's a lot like the pellinor books in some ways. they're REALLY good!! also water shaper by laura williams mccafery (spelling?) is a good book. a great and terrible beauty and the his dark materials series are SO good too! i can't believe i forgot them at first. also, alia waking by laura williams mccaffery is good. ha i'm probably going to be adding on to this list forever...

Birdsong - Sebastian Faulkes (i think that's how you spell his name) very moving book, very emotional lol i found it in a random cupboard. It's about WW1 but it's not a load of bollox war scenes so give it go because it's beautifully written (the author's French :D so sometimes the wording comes across as slightly strange)
